Divya Saini, the visionary entrepreneur and stylist, embarked on her journey to revolutionise India’s vintage clothing market following an inspiring trip across Europe in 2015. It was during this expedition that she discovered the vast and diverse world of vintage fashion, an experience that ignited the inception of Bodements.
Today, Bodements proudly stands as India’s largest vintage clothing store, offering meticulously sourced pieces from around the globe through its dedicated e-commerce platform.
Saini launched Bodements Studio in 2019, an initiative focused on upcycling vintage saris into contemporary silhouettes. This expansion also includes home decor, featuring antique Parisian mirrors and other global curiosities. According to her, “Financial instability, a shift in mindset, and the rise of social media are encouraging everyone to consider secondhand clothing,”.
In an interview with Vogue India, Saini had shared her lifelong passion for unique fashion. “As a kid, I would make my own clothes out of my mum’s old saris and dupattas just to dress apart. I guess the need for innovating and my treasure hunting skills led me to stumble upon my first vintage store in Paris five years ago,” she reminisced. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of her journey into the vintage market, culminating in the creation of Bodements.
Bodements’ success is deeply rooted in Saini’s meticulous sourcing process, which involves annual trips to remote corners of Europe. Her search for pieces for the “Nilam” collection, included sourcing trips to Paris and Berlin, where she explored a rapidly expanding vintage market. According to her, the vintage market has grown tremendously with shops and pop-ups focused on specific eras and upcycling creating a lot of buzz.
Saini’s dedication to finding timeless pieces ensures that every Bodements garment remains relevant and cherished across generations.
Her finds are standout pieces like an 80’s vintage red and beige velvet Christian Lacroix striped jacket and an unnamed black jacket with multicolored wool stitching that resembles an abstract painting.
The growing fashion consciousness in India’s youth draws them towards pieces with character, and Bodements became the perfect avenue to meet this demand. At Bodements, each piece carries a unique story.
Through Bodements, Divya Saini not only offers unique and stylish vintage pieces but also champions the cause of sustainable fashion. Her journey is a testament to how passion, innovation, and a commitment to conscious consumption can drive success in the fashion industry. As Saini continues to break new ground, she inspires a shift towards more sustainable and meaningful fashion choices, redefining what success means in today’s world.
